VETERINARY SURGICAL EXCELLENCE

Advanced Equipment, Experienced Hands, and Compassionate Care

At Seaforth Vets, we understand that news of your pet needing surgery can be stressful. That is why we have designed our surgical department to offer the perfect balance of specialist-grade technology and local, familiar care.

Our sterile surgical suite is equipped with "bells and whistles" usually found only in referral hospitals, ensuring that whether your pet is in for a routine procedure or a complex operation, they are in the safest possible hands.

OUR SURGICAL PHILOSOPHY: SAFETY ABOVE ALL

We don't believe in "bare bones" surgery. Every patient, from a kitten being desexed to an older dog having a tumour removed, receives a premium level of care designed to mitigate risk:

Advanced Monitoring
Advanced Monitoring
We use full ECG, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation monitoring throughout every procedure.
Active Warming
Active Warming
Anaesthesia can cause a pet's temperature to drop. We use a combination of heated water-bed mats and "Bear Hugger" warm-air blankets to keep your pet's body temperature stable, which is critical for a smooth recovery.
Pain Management
Pain Management
We take a proactive approach to pain, using "multimodal" therapy (a combination of different medications) to ensure your pet is comfortable before, during, and after their operation.
Expert Nursing
Expert Nursing
Our nurses have undergone advanced training in anaesthesia and perioperative care, staying by your pet's side from the moment they are admitted until they are ready to go home.
SOFT TISSUE & ONCOLOGY SURGERY

SOFT TISSUE & ONCOLOGY SURGERY

Our team is highly experienced in a wide range of soft tissue procedures. Because we have an in-house Internal Medicine Specialist (Dr Dave Collins), we can perform detailed pre-surgical workups (including ultrasound and biopsies) to plan each surgery with precision.

  • Lump & Tumour Removals: We focus on "clean margins" to ensure the best chance of a curative outcome.
  • Abdominal Surgery: Including the removal of bladder stones, splenic masses, and "foreign bodies" (for those dogs who have eaten something they shouldn't have—like the infamous avocado stone!).
  • Routine Procedures: High-standard desexing (speys and castrates) for puppies and kittens.
SPECIALIST ORTHOPAEDICS (TPLO)

SPECIALIST ORTHOPAEDICS (TPLO)

For pets requiring advanced bone or joint surgery, we offer the best of both worlds. We host a visiting surgical specialist, Dr Eugene Buffet, who performs complex orthopaedic procedures right here in our Seaforth theatre.

This includes the TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy), the gold-standard surgical repair for cranial cruciate ligament ruptures in dogs. By having a specialist visit us, your pet gets world-class surgical expertise without the need to travel to a distant referral centre.

RECOVERY & POST-OPERATIVE CARE

RECOVERY & POST-OPERATIVE CARE

Once the surgery is complete, the care doesn't stop. Your pet recovers in our dedicated, closely monitored recovery cages.

  • Constant Supervision: We watch them through the "danger zone" of waking up to ensure they are warm, quiet, and pain-free.
  • The "Roast Chicken" Standard: We believe a little TLC goes a long way. Once they are fully awake, we often offer our patients a bit of roast chicken for afternoon tea to help them settle before they head home to you.

DISCUSSING YOUR PET’S SURGERY

If your pet requires an operation, we will sit down with you to discuss the procedure, the recovery process, and the costs involved. We are committed to transparency and working with you to achieve the best outcome for your pet.
