IN-HOUSE VETERINARY

INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST

Expert Clinical Care with a Specialist’s Perspective

At Seaforth Vets, we offer a level of medical expertise usually reserved for large referral hospitals. Our internal medicine department is led by Dr Dave Collins, a Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist with over 15 years of experience in major referral centres.

Internal medicine focuses on the "puzzles" of the veterinary world, complex, chronic, or multi-system illnesses that require deep investigation and a nuanced approach to treatment

WHY SEE AN IN-HOUSE SPECIALIST?

When a pet has a complex condition, owners are often faced with a choice: travel to a large, busy referral centre or manage with a general practitioner. We bridge that gap.

By having Dr Dave Collins on-site, we provide:

The Specialist Advantage

Dave has undergone years of advanced training to manage complex cases like immune-mediated diseases, complicated diabetes, and multi-organ failure.
A Non-Invasive Philosophy
A Non-Invasive Philosophy
Dave’s expertise in ultrasound-guided "True-Cut" biopsies often allows us to get a definitive diagnosis (such as a liver or kidney biopsy) without the need for invasive surgery or a long recovery time..
Continuity of Care
Continuity of Care
Your pet stays in their familiar local clinic, and Dave works directly with our GPs to ensure a seamless treatment plan.
Cardiac Management & Staging

CARDIAC MANAGEMENT & STAGING

One of Dave’s primary focus areas is cardiology. Heart disease, particularly Mitral Valve Disease in dogs (common in Cavoodles and Cavaliers) and Cardiomyopathy in cats, requires precise management.

Dave uses advanced echocardiography to "stage" heart disease. This is critical because there is a specific point where the heart begins to "decompensate." Catching this exact moment is vital, as this is when medication has been scientifically proven to be most effective in slowing the progression and extending your pet's life.

COMPLEX CASE MANAGEMENT

Dave’s role involves managing the intricate details of:

Gastrointestinal Disorders
