End of Life Care

END OF LIFE CARE

Compassionate Support and Dignified Farewells

Saying goodbye to a cherished member of the family is one of the most difficult experiences a pet owner can face. At Seaforth Vets, we believe that providing a peaceful, dignified, and painless end-of-life transition is one of the most important roles we play as your veterinary team.

Our approach is rooted in empathy. Many of our patients have been with us from their very first puppy or kitten check, and we understand the deep emotional bond you share. We are here to support you in making the right decision at the right time, ensuring your pet’s final moments are filled with love and tranquillity.

KNOWING WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT

Deciding when to say goodbye is a heavy burden to carry. Our veterinary team works closely with you to assess your pet’s Quality of Life. We focus on objective markers of comfort, such as:

Mobility
Mobility
Are they still able to move comfortably or enjoy their walks?
Appetite
Appetite
Are they still finding joy in their food?
Engagement

Are they still interacting with the family and enjoying their favourite activities?
Pain Management
Pain Management
Can we effectively keep them comfortable with medication?

We are here to have those "tough conversations" with you, providing honest, clinical guidance to ensure that your pet’s dignity is always maintained.

A PEACEFUL PROCESS

We go to great lengths to ensure the euthanasia process is as calm as possible for both the pet and the owners. We understand that every family has different needs, and we offer flexibility in how you say your final goodbyes.

In-Hospital Care

In our clinic, we provide a quiet, private space away from the hustle and bustle of the hospital. Our team is experienced in making the environment feel soft and peaceful, allowing you all the time you need to be with your pet.

Home Visits

Many owners prefer their pet’s final moments to be in the place they love most—at home, on their favourite bed, surrounded by familiar scents. Our vets are available for home visits to perform euthanasia in a familiar environment, reducing stress for the pet and providing privacy for the family.

After-Care and Memorialisation

AFTER-CARE AND MEMORIALISATION

Once your pet has passed, we continue to support you by handling the after-care arrangements with the utmost respect.

  • Professional Cremation Services: We work with a highly professional, long-standing cremation partner who ensures your pet is treated with dignity.
  • Return of Ashes: You may choose to have your pet’s ashes returned to you in a vessel of your choosing, such as a wooden urn or a decorative scatter box.
  • Communal Cremation: If you prefer not to have the ashes returned, we can arrange for a respectful communal service.

THE "SEAFORTH" HEART

Our team is here to listen, not just to treat. We understand that this is a period of grief, and we encourage you to ask any questions you have about the process, the timing, or the after-care. We are lucky to have an experienced team that has walked this path with many families, and we consider it a privilege to provide this final act of care for your companion.
"We work with pets from their very first days right through to the end. Making that final transition as peaceful and calm as possible is our way of honouring the bond between a pet and their family."
